Is Shapital the same app as SpendMind?

Yes. Shapital is SpendMind under a new name. Your account, budgets, history and shared budgets all carry over. It arrives as a normal app update, so there is nothing to reinstall and nothing to sign up for again.

Do I need to do anything after the name change?

No. Sign in the way you always have. Your data, your subscription and the person you share a budget with are unchanged.

Why did SpendMind change its name to Shapital?

Sharing a budget has been part of the app since its first release. What changed is that it became the main way people use it, so the name changed to Shapital, from share and capital. The app still works on your own.

If you opened the app and found a different name on it, nothing has gone wrong. SpendMind is now Shapital.

Your account, your budgets, your history and the person you share with are all exactly where you left them. You do not need to sign up again, export anything, or reinstall. It arrives as an ordinary update, the same way every other update has.

Why the name changed

It is still a budgeting app, and it still works perfectly well on your own. Neither of those is changing.

Sharing a budget has been in here since the first release. What changed is how central it became. Most people using this are budgeting with somebody else, a partner, a spouse, a flatmate, and most of what I have built over the last year has gone into that side of it. Live updates on both phones, an activity feed so nobody is guessing who changed what, comments attached to the actual numbers, permissions per person.

"SpendMind" was a name about one person and their money. It never said the shared part out loud, even when that was the part doing the most work. Shapital does. Share and capital, pushed together. Shared money, planned together, and still entirely yours if that is how you use it.

What is not changing

Your data. Every budget, category, entry and savings goal stays put. So does your activity history and anyone you share a budget with.
What you pay. The free tier is still free and still includes one collaborator. If you have Premium, it carries over untouched. There are still no ads on any tier.
Your old links. Anything you bookmarked or sent to somebody on spendmind.kaygeek.com still works, and it will keep working. I am not switching it off.
Who is behind it. Still one person, still in Johannesburg, still answering the support mail myself.

What you will notice

A new name on the home screen and a slightly different icon. Inside the app, everything is where it was. If you use the home screen or lock screen widgets, they will pick up the new name the first time you open the app after updating.

If something looks wrong

Then I would genuinely like to know. A rename touches a lot of small places and I would rather hear about a stray old logo or a broken link than not. Send me a message and a person reads it.
